Nov. 12th, 2009 @ 03:38 am Bret McKenzie talks about retracting dicks, making out in a zebra mask and a crazy fan
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords talks of freaky things

Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie muses on strange experiences, such as trying to make out in a zebra costume.

Here’s a little story to bring a tear to your eye, I was shopping for a wetsuit to scuba dive. )

What song makes you cry man-tears?

Hurt Feelings. It's so personal. It reminds me of the time I tried on a wetsuit and it didn't fit.

How old were you?

I would have been 20 and old enough that I should have fit into a man's wetsuit.
If the water's really cold your d--- can retract entirely (laughs) just to protect itself. It's not a very masculine skill.

What's the freakiest thing you've ever done?

Made out in a zebra costume. I turned the lights out and I put on my zebra suit and I turned the lights back on. It didn't go too well. You can kiss with it but she's just kissing a mask so there was no real contact. She wasn't into it. By that stage she'd left. I didn't realise she'd left
.

But every suit I tried is too big around the thighs, And the assistant suggested I try a ladies’ size. )

What's the worst thing a fan has done to you?

Oh s---, this one time I didn't say hello to someone and they let down my tyres. They left a note saying, "You didn't say hi. Flat of the Conchords". That can happen when you're a minor celebrity. They say that the chance of having a crazy fan is one in a million. What concerns me is that now we probably have a million fans.

I got hurt feelings, I got hurt feelings. I’m not gonna wear a ladies’ wetsuit I’m a man!. )

Devendra Banhart puts freak-folk on the map with the psychedelic sound of What Will We Be
By: Caity Cudworth
Posted: 11/10/09

11/10/09 - The world isn't always a kind place for fanatical hippies. After all, most Americans care about KFC, NASCAR, and nukes, not wheat grass, world peace, and incense. So, there is a certain degree of eye-rolling lobbed at the kind of people who wear clothing made out of cruelty-free, fair-trade organic hemp.

America just doesn't have much tolerance for crunchy New Age spirituality. Kind of busy for that, you dig? There's just too much reality TV to watch and poorly-made crap to purchase. Case in point, once you get sucked into a conversation about charkas, it's hard to exit gracefully so you can go drive your Shaq-sized SUV to Best Buy.

And we all know patchouli-pushers don't typically take "now isn't really a great time for me to go on a spiritual vision quest or whatever" as an answer.

So it makes sense that freak-folk pioneer Devendra Banhart has remained kind of a fringe figure on the music scene. He's long beenpleasant novelty to mainstream music, kind of like an exotic bird or a weird kid with a cool party trick. But Banhart's new album, What Will We Be, may earn him some credit with listeners outside the psychedelic-folk circle, maybe even ones that wear shoes.

What Will We Be manages to be groovy without reeking of rehashed psychedelia. The LP brings Banhart's hushed voice to sunny tracks brimming with mellow Motown, wounded acoustics, and lush tropical riffs-- and yes, lyrics about opening your soul to the rhythms of a loving, incandescent universe or some such.

And while Banhart might look like the zealous dude at the co-op who's just a little bit too jazzed up about his drum circle, he's definitely a gifted musician. He has a talent for layering eclectic contrasts and an ear for juxtaposition.

This is especially true on the album's second track, "Angelicka." The single song careens through genres, starting softly and going out in a blur of howling Spanish rag-and-bone stomp. "Let regret end at the start of your day," Banhart sings, putting on his spiritual guru hat (or I guess, elaborate beaded headdress?), "don't take no secrets back to your grave. Love's in your heart and hate's in your head. You've got to go blank to let it appear."

Yes, some of Banhart's musings sound straight cribbed from "The Power of Now" but it doesn't come off as the quack wisdom of some yuppie who spent too much time sweating it out in a Tee-Pee.

This time around, Banhart took the time to fine tune his tripped-out lyrics . There's nothing about desperately wanting to be "a little seahorse" on this album, thankfully, and it goes down pretty smoothly.

Most of the songs, however, jive on without weighty soul-searching. "Can't Help But Smile" finds Banhart channeling Vampire Weekend with bright world music beats. Serene, watery piano lines meld with the rush of maracas for a decidedly beachy vibe.

Banhart gets his freak-folk Al Green on with the track, "Baby," a low-key crooner that'll charm the patchwork skirts off every dime on the commune.

It seems that Banhart has finally found his footing with this disc. It's a brilliantly blended album, teeming with wisdom, wanderlust and vibey musical pairings. What Will We Be is perfect for road trips, loafing in your living room on fuzzy-headed Sundays, or even a little bit of post sit-in mellowing out. It's a charming breakthrough for Banhart, one that's elegant, eclectic, and just weird enough to be wonderful.

The picture is from the Hecuba music video. I think he 'cleans' up really nice.

Nov. 12th, 2009 @ 02:48 am More News on Bones Guest Stars

this is actually a photo from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy premiere. Zooey is in the yellow dress and Stephen Fry is behind her.

Bones, the darkly amusing cult hit crime drama, is welcoming back Mr. Stephen Fry in his guest role of Dr. Gordan Wyatt on the show.

Fry is not the only actor to be guesting on the show. In December, Zooey Deschanel joins her sister Emily on-screen for the very first time (Thursday 10th December at 9pm) in "The Goop on the Girl".

In "The Dwarf in the Dirt" (Thursday 19th November 9pm), Booth is still suffering some lingering effects from his brain surgery and has to get re-certified for FBI marksmanship. Unfortunately he's not the accurate shot he was before going under the knife and seeks help from Dr. Gordan Wyatt (Fry) at his new restaurant.

And a special holiday-themed episode welcomes Emily Deschanel's sister Zooey to Bones in "The Goop on the Girl". Zooey Deschanel plays Margaret Whitesell, a distant relative of Brennan. When Brennan's father, Max Keenan (guest star Ryan O'Neal), makes contact with Margaret, he invites her to spend Christmas with him and his daughter.

Nov. 12th, 2009 @ 01:15 am Dina Lohan TERRIFIED of ex-husband, claims he's DANGEROUS

Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina is so terrified of her ex-husband Michael, she has hired armed guards to protect her at all times.

Turbulence within the Lohan family was fuelled after patriarch Michael began leaking phone conversations with Lindsay and Dina he secretly recorded - and now the Lohan mum is worried her ex might turn their war of words into a violent physical confrontation.

Dina, who accused Michael of beating her before they separated for good in 2005, has even resorted to recruiting security to live with her family to ensure their safety.

And she insists the authorities are on her side, too.

She tells TMZ.com, "The D.A. (District Attorney) and the law enforcement are watching his (Michael) every action, and the family court, because he is also six months arrears in child support, which is through the support collection unit in New York.

"They've already taken his license, they're going to take his passport. The noose is getting tighter with law enforcement and we just have to keep his feet to the fire. Lindsay's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, is obviously talking to the D.A. there and I speak with her on a regular basis.

"We're scared. I have security in my house. Actually, I've had security living in my house (since) he was first incarcerated for a year - armed people in my home because we were so frightened. He's dangerous and the scary part is, when this all unravels and his little plan doesn't work, we're afraid he's going to spiral out of control, which he obviously already is."

And Dina claims her eldest daughter isn't the only Lohan child whose life has been disturbed by Michael.

She adds, "He has no visitation (with any of his children). My daughter Aliana's phone was just blocked because he was threatening her on her cell phone. My son's up in college - he actually gave the tabloids my son's phone number at school, which is ridiculous. And my little guy is just 13 and he has to go to school every day and hear this."

Michael Lohan has been imprisoned three times - he was most recently put behind bars in 2000 after violating an order of protection banning his from seeing his four kids.

He claims his daughter is hooked on prescription pills and he is releasing taped phone conversations in an effort to force Lindsay into rehab.

Nov. 11th, 2009 @ 10:51 pm ZQ in talks of new movie

Zachary Quinto could be taking a new ride.

The “Star Trek” topliner is loosely attached to his first post-”Trek” feature, the romantic dramedy “Whirligig.”

Quinto would play the lead role in the Canadian indie, which is aiming to shoot early next year.

The actor has been very selective about his next role, and with no deal in place and a number of contingencies that need to be met, it remains possible he’ll opt for another project as his first post-”Trek” feature.

The “Whirligig” project centers on a man who, in a misguided attempt to woo an older woman, befriends the woman’s adopted son.

Chaz Thorne is directing the pic, based on a screenplay by Michael Amo, creator of the Canadian supernatural series “The Listener,” which aired on NBC in the summer. Thorne, Amo and David MacLeod are producing.

UTA-repped Quinto was best known for his long-running role as Sylar on NBC adventure series “Heroes,” as well as a recurring role on “24″ before also breaking out as the new Spock in the summer hit “Trek.” He’s signed on to reprise his role as the deadpan Vulcan in a sequel.

Par’s “Trek” has provided a bump for a number of actors, particularly Chris Pine, who has been in negotiations to star in a new Jack Ryan pic for the studio, among other projects.

Nov. 11th, 2009 @ 10:07 pm 'Fright Night' remake in the works

Can you dispatch a vampire with a martini and cigarette smoke?

"Mad Men" writer-producer Marti Noxon has been hired to pen DreamWorks Studios' revamp of the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night." Before her work on AMC's "Mad Men," Noxon was a writer-producer on the bloodsucker series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," so fangs and stakes are in her blood.

Producers Michael De Luca, Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig set up the "Fright" project in May. DreamWorks executive Mark Sourian is overseeing for the studio.

The original "Fright," released in 1985, was written and directed by Tom Holland and starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale. Ragsdale played a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires.

The new version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the effects.

The WME-repped Noxon also has been a writer-producer on ABC's "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy" and Fox's "Prison Break."
